WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE TO VOLUNTEER?

We accept volunteers of people from all ages and demographics. Volunteers must be 16 years old with a signed a waiver. We are currently looking for volunteers for our food program at First City Haven Shelter. We are seeking individuals who can teach CPR/First Aid classes and other basic skills such as; career development and resume writing. If you have a specific skill or interest you would like to share with our Residents or Staff, please contact us.

WHAT IS FIRST CITY HAVEN

Formerly known as the Warming Shelter at the Methodist Church, First City Haven has evolved to a 24 emergency housing facility. First City Haven is open to anyone over the age of 18. Residents must register in the AKHIMS system, but are not required to provide identification or prove sobriety. First City Haven strives to remain open and inclusive to anyone seeking shelter and basic needs.  First City Haven serves people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness and those who experience food insecurity.

HOW MUCH OF MY DONATION DIRECTLY SUPPORTS THE CAUSE?

First City Homeless Services provides a variety of services to aid in supporting people who are homeless. In order to provide these services, we must allocate money to operations and capacity building. If you would like to donate to a specific cause or program, feel free to reach out to our CEO and we will be happy to discuss your philanthropic goals.
